Are you thinking about attending college, starting a business, or working at a large corporation in the United States of America? Great! We extend to you a warm welcome to the land of the free and the home of the brave!
Like any new experience, it is always good to prepare as much as possible to ensure good success on your journey. Coming to America is no different. While we are working to perfect our union, we are not a perfect nation. No one has a perfect country as of yet. However, as Americans, we maintain a strong heritage in democracy, liberty, and endless opportunities to pursue happiness, as we continue to provide national, state, and local infrastructure for any person to become great in whatever area of life a person so chooses. In fact, despite the current state of the economy, great events continue to unfold in our wonderful melting pot of diversity .We are America, the beautiful land where dreams still come true!
Of a truth, Americans love diversity; which is why I would like to share a few pointers that I think you should know as you prepare for your visit to America. Without question, right preparations will increase your chances of enjoying pleasant experiences and encountering memorable moments of support and guidance while in the U.S.A.
For starters, mental clarity and self-identity- oftentimes it becomes evident that many foreign guests are uncertain about how they will be received or how to blend into a Western Culture. My most straightforward advice is to be yourself! . . .No need to blend. Feel proud of who you are, keep your birth names, and simply help Americans pronounce your names correctly. Thank you! Your culture is beautiful and many Americans want to experience your world; although, for any number of reasons many Americans have yet to visit India; while a significant other Americans have repeatedly visited your country. Therefore, relax and know that you should maintain your confidence about who you are as a person and that you need not worry about whether Americans will accept you. Just be you! That is part of the beauty of America; it is united lands where many diverse ethnic groups come together under one democracy, live freely, and interact daily with respect one for another.
Secondly, intellectual property- the great people of India are typically very intellectual. As a result, when you come to America there is absolutely no reason to “dumb –down.” Do not compromise your intellectual property. Americans expect the intellectual competition. I suggest you offer private tutoring sessions for those who may be less knowledgeable about any subject and get nice payments for your services. You will be greatly appreciated!
Thirdly, health and living—if possible, bring your native food with you! As a researcher, unfortunately and very sadly I must report that we have found that the American diet is not good for your health! It is not good for Americans or our country! While we are working to change our diets, for now, anyone who consumes a typical American diet is bound to create certain deplorable health problems.
A few years ago, I had the privilege to work for a client who was a Licensed Registered Nurse and a wonderful native-born Indian Nationalist. She and her family lived in the mid-west U.S.A. She was very concerned about the health of her people. As a result, we conducted a research study to prove statistically her theory that Indians who come to the United States need much Medical Health Education before coming to America. We included in her research report Emergency Room statistics where she had treated far too many Indians in the ER and hospitals for the same health problems and early deaths in comparison to that of native-born Americans. She often stated, “This ought not to be happening to my people.” Her greatest desire was that her people, fellow Indians who come to America would live closer to your culture and lifestyles, rather than consume the typical American diet, with results of high blood pressure (hypertension), diabetes, heart attacks, strokes, and far too frequent cases of early deaths.
From the perspective of a native-born, non-Anglican American and based on my years of professional experiences, I am confident that being yourself will afford you positive life-changing opportunities that you could never have imagined! Most Americans embrace diversity as part of our national expansion for continued greatness. Therefore, true Americans will gladly receive you!
Concerning the small percentage of Americans who are anti-diversity, I believe that we must consider them important tools in the landscape of humanity. With great expectations, feel free to come to America, be your-self, and conduct daily your affairs with self- respect and respect for others. Without question, we want you to enjoy your stay so that you will have much good to say about America in your communications back home. Regardless to the extent of your stay, be assured that your experiences in the United States of America will generate positive memories for a lifetime! We hope that you will be able to visit our great country known as North America very soon!
